Behavioral Addiction

What is addiction?

As human beings, we are creatures of habit. These habits can eventually become an a compulsive behavior before we even realize its an addiction. Some behaviors or indulgences can become impulsive such as shopping, eating, and video gaming. Addictions can be of a destructive intimate nature causing deep personal and relational wounds. These include but not limited to pornography, other forms of sexually acting out, gambling, and substances. During our sessions or group work, we will address these important issues and more:

  • Understand the addiction cycle.
  • Understand why addicts act out in spite of adverse consequences.
  • Gain understanding of how to resolve deeper issues that have impacted your addiction.
  • Provide perspectives and insights to help you reach your sobriety goals.
  • Gain the tools and support for a lasting recovery and a fulfilling future.

Pornography Addiction

Porn is a common source of conflict in relationships, research finds. Joint counseling can help partners understand each other's sexual interests. Many psychologists believe that a person's porn use is typically driven by other more critical underlying sexual or relationship issues. Our therapists are trained in pornography addiction. They can help you explore and discover the root issue.

Sexual Addictions

Sexual impulsiveness, and behaviors can become unwelcome and problematic. People who become preoccupied with sexual fantasies and urges act on these impulses. This pattern of behavior is often referred to as hyper-sexuality or sex addiction. Most experts agree that having frequent sex is not necessarily a sign of a problem.

At S.O.L.E. Counseling we'll help you find the best treatment for sexual impulsivity and explores topics like the individual’s feelings, beliefs about self, and past sexual experiences as part of the healing process.

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It was originally meant to reduce symptoms such as hyper-vigilance and intrusive memories. EMDR achieved timely results in its original clinical trials in the late 1980s that withstood six-month follow-ups.

Today, it is viewed by many leading psychology experts as a non-substance or other invasive alternatives to treatment.

EFT is a tool that we use at SOLE Counseling. Our therapists highly recommend it due to its powerful ability to create, repair, and strengthen a person's relationship bonds.
